The 5 Most Luxurious Credit Cards in the World
What are the rich who are looking to splash some serious cash going to be handing over at tills across the world in 2019? Some of the world’s most premium credit cards come with a range of exclusive benefits and perks purely to attract the wealthy. With little to no campaign or promotion, these cards are available by invitation only, meaning the world of luxury credit cards is the stuff most mere mortals could only dream of.
If you’re taking home top dollar and are looking for a luxurious credit card to help you spend it, check out our list of the most premium credit card offers in the world.
1. Centurion Card from American Express
Commonly known as the Black Card, there is nothing common about this premium credit card. So exclusive that you cannot apply, this card is invite-only, with rumours suggesting you need to be spending around US$250,000 to US$450,000 a year on your existing Amex to qualify. Once initiated, you are required to pay a starter fee of US$7,500 followed by US$2,500 annually, which gets you access to a dizzying array of benefits. First, there’s no spending limit, and for every dollar spent you earn a reward point, 1.5 points when you spend over US$5,000. If you travel a lot, you’ll enjoy elite service on Delta Airlines, as well as upgrades with hotel and car rental companies. You’ll have access to luxury lounges in airports the world over, free in-flight wifi and US$200 travel credit to spend as you wish each year.
You’ll be in great company, with celebrities such as Gerard Butler, Beyonce and Jay-Z and Eva Longoria rumoured to be toting the sleek metal card in their wallets.
But perhaps most famously, you have access to a 24/7 personal concierge system. Amex suggests that this should be used for securing tickets, reservations and travel arrangements, but the lengths these clever folk will go to in order to satisfy their clients’ wishes and desires are almost legendary.
A style-savvy Singaporean Centurion card-holder turned to her concierge in her search for a very exclusive, limited edition Hermes Birkin handbag. The bags were not sold in Singapore, or indeed in all of Asia, so the concierge phoned for help from her Mexican counterparts, where the bag is sold but with a waiting list of a year or more. Having negotiated their way to the top of the list, the team were able to deliver the brand new bag to one very satisfied cardholder within two weeks!
2. Dubai First Royale Mastercard
This card oozes luxury from the moment you pick it up. It is trimmed in gold and has a .235 carat solitaire diamond embedded in the front. Again, exclusivity is key to the appeal here, with the website stating that the card is “desired by many but attainable by only a select few.” To qualify, you must live or have lived in the UAE and be worth an awful lot of money. Bonus points if you’re in the UAE royal family. There are only a few hundred people in the world who have been deemed fit for this glamorous card.
Again with no spending limit and a luxury concierge service, which is their case is called a “lifestyle manager” all for a US$2,000 initiation fee and an undisclosed annual fee, this is really a card for the super-rich. When one customer wanted to test drive the latest Porche, his concierge arranged his trip to Germany to go for a spin in the luxury vehicle. Tickets to the Oscars, a private chalet to watch the Formula 1, this exclusive card unlocks those doors for you.
3. Reserve Card from JP Morgan
To qualify for this luxury credit card it is rumoured you’ll need a minimum of US$10 million in holdings with the private bank. Famous card-holders include Barack Obama, so political status won’t go amiss either.
As well as an exclusive rewards point system, US$300 annual travel credit, and impressive insurance protection, you get hotel and car rental upgrades, priority passes and of course that ubiquitous concierge service. Last-minute reservations to a Michelin star restaurant in Tokyo, Hamilton tickets on Broadway or train times in London, your friendly assistant is only a phone call away and ready to make your life a whole lot easier.
4. The Gold Card from Mastercard
Another flashy addition to the wallets of the rich, this card is plated in 24-carat gold. Again there is much secrecy surrounding what you must earn to qualify, but it’s safe to say this is a very exclusive card and if you aren’t sure, then it probably isn’t for you.
Perks include US$200 airline credit each year, a reward points system, 2% cash back, a subscription to Luxury magazine, exclusive gifts and a concierge service. Need to get flowers sent to your wife? A birthday surprise sent to your children? Or organise your mother’s birthday lunch? Your concierge service is going to be a lifesaver. The annual fee is just under US$1,000.
5. Chairman Card by Citi
Another card shrouded in mystery. It is understood to be exclusively for Citigroup bankers and investors, and the minimal website promises “Exciting privileges. Outstanding Service.”
What this means is still cloaked in rumour, but reports suggest cardholders enjoy a US$300,000 credit limit, access to airport lounges and travel upgrades, insurance, access to invite only events and a 24/7 concierge service for help with travel plans and exclusive event access.
